Take Profit Trader rules explained: drawdown, consistency and payouts
How Take Profit Trader's three drawdowns trail, how the 50% consistency rule works, and when PRO payouts start, with worked numbers for Tradovate traders.
Take Profit Trader’s test asks you to hit a profit target without touching an end-of-day trailing drawdown, keep any single day to 50% of your net profit or less, and trade at least 3 days (5 on older tests). PRO accounts switch to an intraday drawdown and ban trading around major news, and you can withdraw 80% of the profit above a buffer from day one.
The details depend on two things: which stage the account is in (Test, PRO or PRO+) and when it was opened. Below is every rule by stage, with TPT’s own numbers worked through, as written on its help centre and site in October 2026.
Take Profit Trader rules at a glance
Take Profit Trader (TPT) has three stages. The Test is a simulated evaluation you pay for monthly. PRO is a simulated funded account that pays out real profit. PRO+ is a live-market account that TPT moves traders to at its own discretion.
| Rule | Test | PRO | PRO+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Environment | Simulated | Simulated | Live |
| Drawdown | End of day | Intraday | End of day |
| Daily loss limit | None | None | Not listed |
| Consistency rule | Best day 50% max | None | Not listed |
| Minimum days | 3 new, 5 older | None for payouts | None listed |
| News trading | Allowed | Flat 1 min either side | Flat 1 min either side |
| Weekly activity | Not listed | 1 day a week | 1 day a week |
| Profit split | None | 80/20 | 90/10 |
| Buffer | None | Yes | None |
From Take Profit Trader’s own help centre and site at the time of writing (October 2026).
Some of these rules are trader-friendly: no daily loss limit, no consistency rule in PRO, and PRO withdrawals from the first day. What ends accounts is mostly the drawdown floor and a few timing rules that are easy to forget.
Which version of the rules applies to your account
TPT changed several rules in 2026 without applying them to every account. Some depend on when an account was created, reset or closed:
| Account | Rule | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Test opened from 17 Aug 2026 | 3-day minimum | 3-day announcement |
| Test in progress before 17 Aug 2026 | 5-day minimum | 3-day announcement |
| Reset of an existing test | 5-day minimum | 3-day announcement |
| PRO account that closes | 50% of buffer zone withdrawable | Withdrawal rules (9 Oct 2026) |
| New PRO+ account | EOD drawdown | TPT FAQ (“As of June 30th”) |
Check the creation date of each account in your Take Profit Trader dashboard. From Take Profit Trader’s own help centre and site at the time of writing (October 2026).
Test account rules
The test has five sizes. Each has a fixed profit target, a fixed drawdown and a fixed contract limit.
| Size | Target | Drawdown | Max size | Reset |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 25K | $1,500 | $1,500 | 3 / 30 micros | $79 |
| 50K | $3,000 | $2,000 | 6 / 60 micros | $99 |
| 75K | $4,500 | $2,500 | 9 / 90 micros | $139 |
| 100K | $6,000 | $3,000 | 12 / 120 micros | $169 |
| 150K | $9,000 | $4,500 | 15 / 150 micros | $199 |
From Take Profit Trader’s own help centre and site at the time of writing (October 2026). Plus a one-time $130 PRO activation fee when you pass.
Profit target
You pass by reaching the target for your size: $1,500, $3,000, $4,500, $6,000 or $9,000 (Rule 1). The consistency rule and the minimum days can push the finish line past it.
Maximum position size
The limit is 3, 6, 9, 12 or 15 contracts by size, and micros get 10 times the allowance, so a 50K can hold 60 micros. TPT describes it as “a static number of contracts that you can have open at once” (Rule 2). It doesn’t scale.
End-of-day trailing drawdown
The test’s drawdown is calculated at the end of the day, not during each trade. TPT calls the level the “minimum account balance”. Its own 25K example (Rule 3):
- The drawdown is
$1,500, so the minimum balance starts at$23,500. - A
$1,000day closes the account at$26,000. - The minimum moves up to
$24,500at the close. - It keeps trailing after green days until it reaches
$25,000, the starting balance, and stops there.
So an intraday run-up you give back before the close doesn’t move the floor. Only the closing balance does.
Approved products and hours
TPT’s Rule 4 is where accounts get lost on a technicality:
- Most futures on CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX are allowed.
- Positions can’t be carried from one trading day into the next. The trading day ends at 5 PM ET, and TPT closes any open position at 4:55 PM ET.
- You can trade again from 6 PM ET, but anything opened at or after 6 PM counts toward the next trading day.
- If a product’s market closes before 5 PM ET and you’re still in, the account can be liquidated. Holiday hours change too, and TPT says missing a holiday-adjusted close means liquidation.
The consistency rule
TPT’s wording is that “no single trading day may exceed 50% of your total net profits” (Rule 5). Its 50K example:
- Day one makes
+$2,000, and the remaining days add+$1,100, for$3,100net. $2,000 / $3,100is64.5%, which TPT rounds to65%. That’s over the limit.- The test isn’t failed. You keep trading until the best day is under half of net profit, which here means net profit above
$4,000.
So the real target on that account isn’t $3,000 any more. It’s more than twice the best day. TPT’s dashboard shows your updated goal, and that’s the figure to trade to. One big day early in a test can raise the bar a long way, so it pays to know your best day’s share before you add to a winner.
Minimum trading days
This is the rule most summaries get wrong, because it changed on 17 August 2026 and the change wasn’t retroactive (3-day announcement):
- Test accounts opened from 17 August 2026 need at least 3 trading days.
- Evaluations already in progress, and resets of those existing accounts, keep the 5-day minimum.
- A trading day is any day with at least one trade, and there’s no time limit.
Worked example: you hit the $3,000 target on a 50K test in 2 days. A new account needs 1 more trading day. A legacy account, or a reset of one, needs 3 more.
No counter positions
You can’t hold positions in opposite directions in the same product or in closely related products. This applies to Test, PRO and PRO+.
What the test doesn’t have
There’s no daily loss limit, and news trading is allowed in the test. Both change in a way that matters once you pass: the news rule arrives in PRO, and the daily loss limit stays absent.
How the drawdown works on Test, PRO and PRO+
Each stage trails differently, and it’s the biggest change after you pass.
| Account | How it trails | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|
| Test | End-of-day balance | Starting balance |
| PRO | Intraday peak, incl. open profit | Starting balance |
| PRO+ | End-of-day balance from $0 | $0 |
From Take Profit Trader’s own help centre and site at the time of writing (October 2026).
Test: end of day
The floor moves only on the closing balance and stops at the starting balance. The 25K example above shows it.
PRO: intraday
In PRO, the drawdown is calculated from your peak balance during the day, including unrealized gains. TPT’s PRO Account Rules give a 25K example with a $1,500 drawdown:
- A trade shows
+$1,000open profit. The minimum balance rises to$24,500in real time. - You close the trade at
+$500. The balance is$25,500. - The minimum stays at
$24,500, so you’re$1,000from liquidation, not$1,500.
The drawdown never trails above the starting balance. If the balance falls to the minimum, through realized or unrealized losses, the account is liquidated immediately.
In PRO, the floor follows your best open profit, not your closing balance.
This is the habit to unlearn after the test. Letting a winner run and then give half of it back was harmless in the test. In PRO it costs drawdown every time.
PRO+: end of day from $0
A PRO+ account starts at a $0 balance, with an end-of-day drawdown equal to the PRO account’s original drawdown. On a 50K, that means a floor of –$2,000. It trails up with realized profit at the end of each day and stops at $0 (upgrade guidelines). TPT’s FAQ says new PRO+ accounts have had the EOD drawdown “as of June 30th”.
PRO account rules
PRO keeps the drawdown and counter-position rules and adds four more.
News
You must have no open positions and no working orders from one minute before to one minute after:
- FOMC statements (Wednesdays, 2:00 PM ET). Fed speakers and FOMC minutes are allowed.
- Non-Farm Payroll (monthly, Fridays, 8:30 AM ET).
- CPI.
TPT points traders to red-folder USD events on ForexFactory and to its own trader calendar. Its PRO rules list these events without limiting them to index futures, so treat the rule as covering whatever you trade, crude and gold included.
Trade at least one day a week
You need at least one round trip on a permitted instrument on one day in each Sunday to Friday week. Support can grant a temporary exception, so ask before a planned break.
No bots, and exit before limit up or down
Automated or bot trading of any kind is prohibited in PRO; trades must be placed by hand. If a market hits limit up or limit down while you hold a position there, you lose the PRO account. TPT links to the CME price limits page for current levels.
No consistency rule
TPT’s FAQ is direct: “there is no consistency rule in the PRO account.”
PRO+ accounts
What changes
PRO+ runs on live capital. The split improves to 90/10 and the buffer requirement goes away, according to TPT’s payouts article. There’s no threshold that earns it: TPT says promotion is a holistic review of trading performance and behavior, and it decides when a trader is ready. TPT’s published FAQ names Tradovate as its broker for live PRO+ accounts.
The upgrade
When a trader moves up, the PRO account goes on hold and $5,000 of PRO profit is frozen in it. Profit above that can be withdrawn under the PRO split. The PRO+ account starts at $0. If PRO+ ends negative, the deficit comes out of the frozen $5,000, and what’s left is withdrawable under the standard PRO terms. From then on, all trading and withdrawals happen on the PRO+ account.
Same conduct rules
The PRO+ rules repeat the news window, the weekly trading day, no counter positions and the limit up or down rule. Losing to a price limit costs the PRO+ account.
Take Profit Trader payout rules
PRO payouts work off one number: the buffer zone.
| Size | Buffer balance | Split above it |
|---|---|---|
| 25K | $26,500 | 80/20 |
| 50K | $52,000 | 80/20 |
| 75K | $77,500 | 80/20 |
| 100K | $103,000 | 80/20 |
| 150K | $154,500 | 80/20 |
From Take Profit Trader’s own help centre at the time of writing (October 2026).
The buffer
The buffer zone is the starting balance plus the account’s max drawdown. Once the balance is above it, you can withdraw from day one and keep 80% (withdrawal rules). On a 50K:
- The max drawdown is
$2,000, so the buffer balance is$52,000. - The balance reaches
$53,000. - The
$1,000above the buffer can be withdrawn at the 80/20 split. - The trader’s share is
$800, before payment fees.
The buffer has a second job. Because the PRO drawdown stops trailing at the starting balance, holding a full drawdown’s worth of profit means the floor is locked at the start. Withdrawing everything above the buffer keeps that cushion intact.
The 50% rule on closed accounts
TPT’s withdrawal page adds one more line: “You can withdraw 50% of your Buffer Zone after your account is closed.” That’s a separate provision. It doesn’t change the 80/20 split on profit above the buffer, which still applies to a running PRO account.
Previously, a higher rate applied to long-running accounts, so older guides may quote a different figure.
How often and how much
- Payouts are daily, with no maximum withdrawal amount and no minimum number of days in profit.
- Wallet withdrawals of
$250or less carry a$50fee. That covers amounts under$250, not only exactly$250. Over$250there’s no fee (withdrawal fees). - PayPal may take its own fees from the amount.
How long it takes
TPT’s payout speed Q&A describes two steps:
- Account to wallet. On Tradovate PRO accounts it’s automated and takes about 5 to 10 seconds, as long as you’re flat with no working orders when you ask. Rithmic PRO accounts, PRO+ accounts and archived Tradovate accounts are processed by hand.
- Wallet to bank. TPT’s team reviews each payout request, which can take up to 12 business hours. US bank payouts through Plaid are typically real time but may take 1 to 2 business days, and PayPal or Wise payouts up to 12 business hours.
What Take Profit Trader costs
The test is a monthly subscription
The 50K test is listed at $170 a month, and the price rises with account size. Because the subscription renews monthly and resets are extra, a long test can cost more than one month’s fee. Breaking a rule doesn’t cancel the subscription; you cancel it yourself in the dashboard. When you pass, the subscription is cancelled automatically (test subscriptions).
Test resets
Since 16 May 2026, test resets cost $79, $99, $139, $169 and $199 from the 25K up, for new and existing test accounts (reset pricing update).
The activation fee
Yes, Take Profit Trader has an activation fee: a one-time $130 when you move to PRO, with no monthly PRO or PRO+ fees after that. TPT’s site advertises promotions that waive it, so check the current offer before you pay.
PRO resets
| PRO account | Reset price |
|---|---|
| 25K | $449 |
| 50K | $649 |
| 75K | $799 |
| 100K | $999 |
| 150K | $1,499 |
Up to three resets per PRO account. A PRO account whose subscription is disabled is closed and can’t be reset. From Take Profit Trader’s own help centre at the time of writing (October 2026).
A PRO reset gives you a fresh account with the same properties and rules and no evaluation to pass, and you can take payouts from its first day (Resetting A PRO Account).
Platforms: where Tradovate fits
TPT lists more than 15 platforms on two data feeds, CQG and Rithmic. Tradovate is on the CQG side, and you can place orders on a Tradovate account from TradingView too (see how to connect Tradovate to TradingView). TPT’s published FAQ names Tradovate as its broker for live PRO+ accounts.
The feed also decides how fast PRO withdrawals reach the wallet (automated on Tradovate, manual on Rithmic) and which journals can sync the account. TickProof syncs TPT accounts that run on Tradovate, not those on Rithmic.
How to track Take Profit Trader rules on Tradovate
In Tradovate
TPT’s help pages tell CQG-side traders to open the Accounts module and add two columns: “Drawdown Auto Liq Level”, which is your current floor, and “Dist Drawdown”, which is how far away it is. On a PRO account, watch the second number while a trade is open. It shrinks as open profit raises the floor.
Why the TPT dashboard isn’t enough
TPT’s dashboard balance isn’t live. It updates once a day, between 8 and 9 PM EST (how to withdraw). During the session, Tradovate’s own account columns are the closer view.
What to log each day
A short daily note covers most of the ways a TPT account ends:
- Test: your best day as a share of net profit, and trading days so far against 3 or 5.
- PRO: distance to the floor at the close, and distance to the buffer.
- PRO and PRO+: a trade in this Sunday to Friday week, and whether you were flat around any FOMC, NFP or CPI release.
- All stages: flat by 4:55 PM ET, and the close time of any product that shuts earlier.
Where TickProof fits
TickProof is a free journal that syncs your TPT accounts on Tradovate through a read-only connection made on Tradovate’s own sign-in page. Nothing is typed or uploaded, and it never places, changes or cancels orders. It doesn’t sync TPT accounts on Rithmic. Each account carries a label (Prop Evaluation, Prop Funded, Live or Paper), and you can share a verified proof of the results.
For a Tradovate account assigned to the right TPT product, it shows drawdown headroom, the drawdown threshold, profit-target progress, trading-day counts, contract limits and consistency figures. It tells the Test end-of-day, PRO intraday and PRO+ end-of-day drawdowns apart, and its rules panel shows the rule version, its source and the date it was checked.
It’s rule tracking, not enforcement, and it has limits:
- Figures update from closed trades.
- On PRO, headroom is an estimate until the threshold locks, because TickProof can’t reconstruct every unrealized profit peak. You can enter the firm’s threshold to calibrate it.
- Consistency is worked out on ET calendar days, so it may not match TPT’s trading-session figure exactly. Check TPT’s dashboard before you rely on it.
- It doesn’t calculate TPT’s withdrawal buffer.
Free covers three active accounts with no card needed. Power is $24 a month or $240 a year. If you’re comparing tools, see our look at trade journals for prop firm traders.
The bottom line
TPT’s test comes down to the end-of-day floor and the 50% best-day share, plus 3 or 5 trading days depending on when you opened it. PRO is a different game: an intraday floor that follows open profit, a one-minute news window and a buffer you have to build before the 80/20 split starts. Check the live help-centre article before you trade, because these rules change several times a year.
Frequently asked questions
Does Take Profit Trader have a consistency rule?
In the test, yes. No single trading day may be more than 50% of your total net profit. Breaking it doesn't fail the test; you keep trading until your best day falls below half of net profit. PRO accounts have no consistency rule, and none is listed in the PRO+ rules.
Is Take Profit Trader's drawdown intraday or end of day?
Test accounts use an end-of-day trailing drawdown, PRO accounts use an intraday trailing drawdown that includes open profit, and new PRO+ accounts use an end-of-day drawdown that starts below a zero balance. In PRO, giving back open profit uses up drawdown, because the floor follows your highest balance including unrealized gains.
When can I withdraw from a Take Profit Trader PRO account?
From day one, once the balance is above the buffer zone, which is the starting balance plus the max drawdown (52,000 dollars on a 50K). At 53,000 dollars, the 1,000 dollars above it pays the trader 800 dollars at the 80/20 split, before fees. Wallet withdrawals of 250 dollars or less carry a 50 dollar fee.
Did Take Profit Trader cut PRO payouts to 50%?
No. The PRO split is still 80/20 on profit above the buffer, according to Take Profit Trader's withdrawal rules updated 9 October 2026. Separately, the same page says you can withdraw 50% of your buffer zone after your account is closed. Confirm the exact amount with the firm before relying on it.
Is the Take Profit Trader test minimum 3 days or 5 days?
It depends on when the test was opened. Test accounts opened from 17 August 2026 need at least 3 trading days. Evaluations already in progress before then, and resets of those existing accounts, keep the 5-day minimum. A trading day is any day with at least one trade.
